Post subject: windows 98 not getting authentication dialog
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

Hiya,

IIS 6 on an windows 2003 machine

This Windows 98 guy is not getting the authentication dialog when he hits a
server with anonymous access disabled.
He only gets the "You are not authorized..." page
Wiindows 2000, and XP users do fine.

This guy used to get the dialog box. The machine kept denying him access.
Probably culd not figure out what domain to use.
Although his credentials worked at an 2000 machine and at an XP machine.

What can be wrong?

Insure you have basic authentication checked. I think the default is
anonymous and windows authenticated but basic needs to be checked within IIS
Service Manager

I have integrated windows authentication checked only. Does that not work
for windows 98? IT works for windows 2000 client.

Thanks

It is based upon IE. Also, 2k and xp are on the nt platform, not the 9x platform. Make sure the 98 client is on the latest IE, and that he is logged into the same
domain as the IIS server.

Thank you. I hope this information is helpful.
