Post subject: web sharing folder
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

I am having a minor problem trying to share a users home directory on IIS
6.0. Basically, I have every thing working except users can only read their
files and can not upload new files.

I am running an intranet (IIS 6) with an ssl. My goals is to be able to
have users log into an intranet and get to their home directory. I set up a
virtual directory which maps the UNC for the individual share. I also set
the permission on the virtual directory for Read and Write access. I also
checked the permissions on the share on the file server to be sure that
these are set to full control for the use that is connecting to the folder.
The users can log in and see their files but not paste any new files into
the folder.

What am I doing wrong?

Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the quick response.

Yes. I am talking about web folders. Both Read and Write Access is checked
on the virtual directory tab on the IIS server. I also checked the
permissions on the file server but these are set for full control.

What type of files? Is it for every file or just certain
ones? ASP files, for instance, need the Script Source
Access checked in the virtual directory properties...

The file types vary. For example, I would like a user to be able to upload
a microsoft word document she/he is working on from a remote computer.

I tried enabling all options... script source, execute, etc without any
success. When a user logs on he/she has only read access through a browser.
It won't let you copy and paste a document into the browser window.

You need to set the NTFS write permissions not just the web site.

The ntfs permissions on the user share are set. I am sharing the user home
directory and the user has full control. Do the NTFS permissions need to be
set some where else?

In windows explorer, right click the directory you are
writing the files to and select the security tab. That is
where you set ntfs permissions.

The ntfs permissions are set for full control for each user that is
accessing their web folders. I have also made sure that they have write
access to the virtual directory. There is clearly a configuration setting
that I have overlooked. I appreciate all of the assitance. Any other
thoughts?
