Post subject: virtual directory not reachable with machine name in URL
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

I am running IIS 5 in an Advanced Windows 2000 Server with
SP4. I have no other machines connected on the network.
When I type "http://computername/virtualdirectory" the
page is getting redirected to default.asp in a continuous
loop and page is not opend. But typing
only "http://computername" brings up the IIS web pages.
If I replace the computer name with computer's IP then
everything works fine.

I have checked the DNS and the DNS is working.

Any help?

Shankar

Do you have a Redirect URL set up on /virtualdirectory that redirects to
itself somehow?

Hi,

Yes. There is a re-direction to "default.asp". But my web pages works fine with my all other installations and also even in this installation if I type the IP instead of computer name it works fine. When I tye http://computername/virtual directory it does not access the virtual directory.

Remove the URL Redirection and see if the problem still persists.

I think you've got a lucky configuration mishap that you've broken.
