Post subject: IIS 6.0 stopped when adding new virtual directory for ASP.NET20
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

We have Windows 2003 web server with IIS 6.0, running both ASP.NET 1.1 and
2.0 applications. Each time when we deployed ASP.NET 2.0 applications, we
created virtual directory to point to the new application folder. In the
ASP.NET tab of newly created virtual directory, we select ASP.NET 2.0, and
separate application pool with that of 1.1. However, each time we apply the
ASP.NET 2.0 changes for the virtual directory, the IIS service stopped. We
have to restart the IIS service, and it is very annoying to production web
server. Strange enough, we have another develop web server, the IIS service
never stop when we apply the same ASP.NET 2.0 changes to the virtual
directory.

My question is that is there any IIS setting that can prevent the IIS
service to stop when virtual directory setting changes to ASP.NET 2.0?
Thanks,
Charts

Hi,

The corresponding worker process of your site/virtual directory's
application pool will be restarted when setting up ASP.net 2.0 on it. This
is expected behavior due to the worker process needs to load the new CLR.

Were you able to find a fix or workaround for this behavior?

Thanks,
