I don't think that's a stupid question, but internet has been invented
to share information, documents, etc. Also If you want to keep things
for you, or only for a small group, you may restrict access to your
website to subscribers.
To protect photos (copyright piracy detection) you may also use image
watermarking.

Oh dear, oh dear. So it is now the norm to use Dreamweaver?
Or worse still: "To make a website, you need to use Dreamweaver".
Dear, dear, dear.
About your pics and content. If you don't want them copied, don't put them
online.

Any basic computer skilled visitor will just hit the "PrtScr" key, open
Photoshop, paste the image and save it.
No matter what javascript you put in.

It is, by market dominance. Just be thankful it's not FP, and that DW is
actually quite good. Be thankful DW is *just* complicated enough to put
off the hordes of "my first homepage" unclean

Just to elucidate a little more... there are things you can do to stop
images being ripped by casual or ignorant users - ways to disable
right-click, for example. Another method is to slice important pictures
into several pieces and rejoin them on the page, so people can't copy the
pic with a single operation and would have to download each bit and rejoin
them. Another is to overlay the important image with another, empty,
transparent image.
I mention these because, if you ask around you may hear these put forward as
'foolproof' methods. There are people out there who believe in them.
But, presuming you are putting only screen-resolution pix up there to start
with, you can't stop someone doing a screen grab, or of going to their
browser's cache for the image. Anyone above the basic Microsoft level will
know how to circumvent your precautions.

And both of these can be worked around trivially -- screen captures.

The ones who are going to steal your work aren't casual users, they'll
know what they're doing. Far better to not do things which hurt the
regular user as well as the crook, and instead be sure you put the
copyright notice on stuff and all that.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: any way to stop people saving picture files off website |

Useless script that only ticks off folks from being able to use the
right click function for other things while on a site.

Just a lot easier, and less markup involved, to just open a photo
editor and put your URL or something in 60pt semi-transparent text
across the image - or others editing thoughts to lower the quality in
terms of snagging thoughts - where people can still see the basic
image but not in a way that anyone, thinking of grabbing an image,
would be interested in it. In other words, don't put your best copy of
the image on the site in the first place.

Then there's the browser cache where you can grab the copy from too.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: any way to stop people saving picture files off website |

I wonder if the invisible tag works for usenet posts:
Mary had a little lamb<invisible>
</invisble>the lamb was sure to go.
Wow, it does work.
