What a coincedence, I've identified your mother's niche too!
In a second coincedence, she's giving it away for free also!
I appreciate your advice to "fuck off you wanker!" Thanks!
however, your mom charges extra for that.

Free advice: You won't gain any kudos for pissing on the locals.
Non-free advice: Anything to do with how to run your business.

Unlike some of these guys, I have better things to do than try to boost
my ego by posting on newsgroups to prove how much I know and some one
else doesn't. I don't need your kudos. And now, I don't want your
advice either.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: starting a web business |

You are correct Matt, of course, and as always.
It's just that I've not been round these here parts for a bit, so it may
take me a day or two to get back in the swing of things.

1) Professor? Sounds like you're still in the schoolyard.
2) You really don't want to start anything here. You really don't, for
your sake. We're generally a nice bunch, but we don't take too kindly to
strangers bearing an over-inflated self-worth.

You know... Killfiling and/or ignoring those who irritate you is a much
better option than reacting like a self-absorbed adolecent.

Starting a business is easy. Just find people who will pay you for what
you can provide and provide it. If you are good at it and/or charge a
reasonable rate then more people will pay you, if you are bad at it
and/or charge too much then few people will pay you. It will all fall
into place one way or the other. My consulting bill is in the mail.

Let's see - you come in here asking questions that are so broad and general
that we can't even begin to answer, then get an attitude when we try to
explain why we can't answer and claim that you're "a professor in computer
science" and can do better than most hacks, and when asked to prove it, you
get even more of an attitude.
Based on that, I'd say that:
a) you are, indeed, a professor of computer science. You have the
appropriate poor level of social skills and the associated misplaced
arrogance, which make you come across more like a whiny adolescent wannabe
computer geek who spends too much time locked in his room playing MMORPGs
and not enough time getting out and learning about the real world.
b) your skills are, indeed, what one would expect of a such a person.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: starting a web business |

I'm thinking, if he's a professor, why couldn't he figure out that he could
learn a lot about running a business by asking one of the Business
professors where he teaches.
(unless he teaches for ITT, which would also indicate that he's a wanker)<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: starting a web business |

Forging a path through the Usenet jungle, armed only with a rusty

Really? so far in this thread I've seen a lot of words but no substance
of note - this thread marked safe for recreation.
> ...
> advice ...
Ahh - that would be the help-desk. just down the hall. make good and
sure there's plenty room on the plastic cash.
This is usenet - it doesn't work like that. Folk post a note, it may be a
question, and others may (or may not) discuss the issue raised and often
many tangential issues. Somewhere in amongst the disussion, the original
question may be answered - if so that's a lucky break. The folk that give
of their time and energy, share their skills and experiences in this
group, do so for free. I've seen entire sites redesigned from the ground
up over the course of an evening, database schemas normalised during a
coffee break. It's about give and take, contribute, join in, keep your
mind open and a wealth of info opens like a new vista. Many (most?) of
the issues challenging a self employed web designer/builder/master have
been faced down before.
There really is no need to spit on the carpet - this ain't Rome.

I'm very confident that you guys could carry out your threats. But, i
haven't seen anything nice yet, except from one or two people.
