Post subject: cant start iis 5 and no metabase backup!
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

on a w2k server, the iis services won't start, with iisadmin hanging
on startup with nothing displayed in the event log. Trying to remove
iis again hangs as it gets near the final point of the uninstall.
I've checked kb article 234429 which says to restore from a metabase
backup (which doesn't seem to have been created). The final option in
the kb article is to remove the nt4 option pack and ie and then
reinstall.

Seeing as though nt4 option pack is not on a w2k server, any ideas on
how to remove iis?

Thanks - that doesn't tell you how to remove it apart from add/remove
components - which I've used and which hangs at the end.
We actually found that if we disabled terminal services (in remote
admin mode) then iis starts up quite happily (as does task scheduler
which was also failing to start). Adding terminal services back in
goes back to both iisadmin and task scheduler failing to start.
So now I have to work out why terminal services is doing this.....
Thanks for the suggestion though.

Well, I have no heard anything about TS and IIS.
Please ensure your machine is patch up to date...
no virus and etc.

if IIS setup hang, you can always check the IISX.log in
%windir%, where X can be 5,6 depend on your OS.
