Hello - I do web design as a moonlight job here in Northern Indiana for
some extra green on the side. I say web design and mean exactly that -
design. I couldn't code my way out of a wet paper bag, but I can work my
way through dreamweaver/photoshop rather effectively and compile some
pretty nice looking small business websites, complete with a lame flash
buzzword animation and cool looking javascript menu.

I've gotten good enough that I am now attracting slightly larger business
clientele in the area, and they are expecting more than your usual webpage
of academia, they want ecommerce. They want ease of use. They don't want
an amateurish paypal icon on their 'order' page. I design websites, and in
the near future I will need a shopping cart with 10+ items, uniquely
priced, with Check/Money Order/CC as payment plan options. I have a few
questions;

1. How much would a programmer charge for a cart, just a cart?
2. Are there any programs/extensions for Dreamweaver that could automate
the process of cart making in PHP/ASP format, something EASY for a web
design peon like myself?
3. If I refer the cart dev job to a local establishment, would a 15%
commission fee be out of the question? A commission seems reasonable to
me, had it not been for my conveying of potential business they wouldn't
have had access to the job to begin with right?

4. <insert any additional information regarding shopping carts here that
you think may be useful to a n00b>

Thanks!

Have you looked into osCommerce? It might be right up your alley. It
is a great shopping cart, but it requires work and a bit of learning
to get it up and running. You will probably find it worth your while
to learn it and practice using it. It comes standard with very many
web hosting sites.

Mostly it needs someone like you to design it's look and feel, but it
requires a bit of tweaking here and there. It isn't hard and the
support is pretty good, but for a shop owner, that time is better
spent conducting business. For a web designer, keep a notebook about
what you learn and you should find it a valuable resource.

A nice turn-key package in osCommerce that I could just replace
graphics and names in a convenient form, would be worth buying.

Good luck
Buck
