Sounds like your IIS7 request pipeline is misconfigured somehow, or
its config file is corrupted.
Check event log to see if anything is wrong with the
applicationHost.config file.
If everything is alright, then FREB should be installed and ready for
you to enable via the IIS7 Management Console to capture a trace of
IIS internals for the failing request, and you can view that XML file
with the supplied XSLT transform to get a very cool-looking
diagnostics sheet.
IIS7 may seem complicated because it is now so generic and flexible,
but the tools for diagnosing what is wrong with it is also much
better. It is way better than IIS on XP Pro; just give it a chance.
