Post subject: replicating content on load balanced IIS
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

Hi,
I am currently configuring 2 IIS 6.0 servers running win2k3 behind a
load balancing switch. I need to ensure the content is up to date on
both servers in case of an outage or failure on either server. This is
also required to allow for the load experienced during peak times. I
need the content from both serves to replicate in both direction in
case a change is made on either server.
I have read several posts relating to clustering, iissync, MS Site
Server Content Replication Service and application center, but these
are a very expensive option and do not fulfill the requirements. I
have also read articles relating to DFS and replication, but need to
know if anyone has solved this problem of real time syncronisation in
both directions on live iis servers.
Any suggestions appreciated

Hi
Real time of synchronisation of IIS is not possible. However if you are
running IIS in a cluster you can use iiscnfg.vbs. This tool is meant for
synchonizing the IIS metabase and is a manual process run when there are
configuration changes in IIS made on one server.

With regard to content , you can use a SAN when using a cluster to make the
content available automatically for either node in the cluster. FYI - IIS
can be run only in a Active-Passive configuration on a cluster.

Hope this is helpful.
