Ok Folks, Just thought I'd voice my opinion on this "mickey mouse setup they
call webhosting"
I signed up with
http://www.purple-paw.com over two months ago for their £25
service for 40 mb web space and free domain name etc.
At the time I was made aware of all such bandwidth usage etc etc.
After taking all the time to set everything up (email forwarding, web
forwarding etc) I eventually started to up load images and index files to my
site, all being well until one night the whole site went down!!
I emailed purple-paw to ask what the problem was (as I didn't get any
warning) their reply was quite disturbing.
They said that they had froze my account as I exceeded the 1gb bandwidth
which they allocated to my account, I wouldn't mind but the files I have
loaded on to the site where no larger than 10 kb each, and there was about
50 of them.
They said, that it would cost me a extra £5 at the end of the month which
would be collected automatically, I was gob smacked and quite annoyed to say
the least as I didn't receive any email from them saying I was going to or
going near to exceeding the bandwidth, nor did I receive any warning that
they planned to freeze my account.
Their emails also quite announcing as they where basically saying that I
would be better upgrading to a more substantial bandwidth (5 gb) an extra
£50 more, I argued the toss that I haven't even got large files on the
hosting so I couldn't see how the bandwidth could have been reached.
Anyway, I decided to cut my losses and close the account, (with a loss of
£25) once again I receive "pleading emails" saying that they didn't want me
to go and that I would be welcome to upgrade for the extra cost (even though
I had told them no twice that I didn't want to)
At the end of it all I sent them a email saying that I wanted to close my
account with them and for them to send me a written confirmation of this, I
received a email back saying "FINE!!"
I don't know what type of monkeys they have running this Mickey mouse setup
but It totally stinks, (I still havent received a closure confirmation or
any refund of my money for closing my account early)
I just wanted people to know to stay away from purple-paw as they are very
nasty people to deal with and they services are not drawn up fully in black
and white.
END OF RANT!!
