Thank you for your response, Eric. I wish you were right.
As I understand it, from what my biz partner has told me, the
realplayer streaming technology requires the server to install
realplayer software, and get a licence from realplayer.
Tech support at affordablehost informed me that streaming is not
supported... which is unfortunate, as I have enough empty space on the
account to hold the files, and it would be preferred, above getting a
whole other account just for the streaming. Not really surprising
though, they are an inexpensive service, and I'm told the streaming
licence is quite expensive.
I have ram files, smi files, and rm files... all the lessons (5
have a separate rm file for the title credits, and some vids are split
into 10 minute sections, so the smi file is essential.
If not streaming, I would be OK with allowing my students to
download the files and play them from their hard drive, assuming they
have enough ram to do that.... Having multiple files, it makes it
difficult to do a simple download and play. At least, I don't know
how to make it happen! Having the students download a zipped file,
unpack it, etc... seems inconvenient. Most are not tech savvy.
Unfortunately, I'm working against a deadline, my biz partner will
cease offering the vids in one week. Hopefully I can sort something
out before then, so there will be no interruption of service for paid
members.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
