I have been making candles for 5 years and I have tried all the marketing
ideas. Now I am working on the internet. I need some honest opinions about
our web site www.justgreatcandles.com

Your opinions will be greatly appreciated.

In general, I like the layout and geometry of your site. It loads
reasonably quickly, and is easy to navigate.

I do have a couple of suggestions. The image of the woman relaxing in
the bath, surrounded by candles feels quite out of place in the stark
white background you have for most of your home page. Don't get me
wrong, bright web pages are typically better than the dark "gothic"
monstrosities one often sees, but this one might benefit from being a
bit "warmer".

Next, you should cut down the amount of text on the home page. Much of
it is "below the fold" and is not going to be viewed or read by a lot of
your potential customers. Also, many search engines will balk at
excessive amounts of text on a page, meaning that you won't get the
index rankings you'd like.

Lastly, what the heck is a "candle warmer" good for?<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Hello,

i like the color scheme... it works well for what you are selling
this image <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.qpg.com/custom/candles12_1s520397.jpg" target="_blank">http://www.qpg.com/custom/candles12_1s520397.jpg</a> on the
first page of your store is causing a message about nonsecure item on
the webpage. this is because it is hosted on a seperate url that is
outside of your SSL... if you put it where the rest of your images are
it will fix the problem.

when you click through to the store the page suddenly becomes wider...
not a big deal but i thought i would point it out. if you can get away
from using the iframe on the product pages of the store it would look
better. on the candles page the iframe has to side scroll which makes
the page look very strange. if you cannot remove the iframe consider
reducing it to 500 pixels tall instead of 800.

its kinda strange that some of your items have a buy it now button and
others do not... i don't know if that was on purpose but it would be
helpful to put the button on all items.

one last suggestion... put a continue shopping button to the left of
the checkout button.

other than that, it's a clean design that loads quickly... nice work
good luck with your new storefront

Howdy Jenny,

You've got a nice feel and appearance established. However, you've been
sabotaged by a shopping cart system that cannot function without cookies and
does not know how to keep all of the images on the secure side. The fact it
shifts to https just to look at the catalog slows your pages significantly.

Personally, I will not make purchases on any web site that wants to use my
hard drive space to save their information. I also don't like neighbors who
want to use my garden hose to water their lawn {grin}.

You need to get your money back from the websitepros.com folks so you can
move to something that works properly for you.

Thanks, Chris <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.bizynet.com" target="_blank">http://www.bizynet.com</a>

A candle warmer is an electric device used to melt the wax with NO flame.
The latest thing in keeping a great smelling office or house without the
flame. Thanks for asking.

Hi Jenny,

Use a document type, too. The W3C QA Activity maintains a List of
Valid Doctypes. You can find the info at:
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.w3.org/QA/2002/04/valid-dtd-list.html" target="_blank">http://www.w3.org/QA/2002/04/valid-dtd-list.html</a>

After you choose a doc type go back and make sure your HTML coding is
good by using the tool at the following url:
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://validator.w3.org/detailed.html" target="_blank">http://validator.w3.org/detailed.html</a>

I would also add that you should introduce text links and a site map
to make your site more accessible for users. See all of Google's site
design tips & guidelines at the url below (u will see the 1st
guideline includes text links:
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.google.com/webmasters/guidelines.html" target="_blank">http://www.google.com/webmasters/guidelines.html</a>

I hope this helps. I think it should, ALOT!

Best,

Roland Girouard
