Post subject: Looking for online payment options other than e-bay & 2checkout
Archived from groups: biz>ecommerce (more info?)

Hello readers

I want to sell products like T-shirts & allied accesories through
internet. I come across e-bay's site but later learned that I cannot
receive payment via paypal as this service is not being offered in
Pakistan. After searching the alternatives I come across about
2checkout.com. On the face of it the site seems reasonable but after
reading stories on ecommerce group about the difficulties people are
facing I have no option but to look for another reliable alternative.

Can anyone tell me the procedure of receiving payment in Pakistan
through other reliable service?

Omais

Howdy Omais,

The first step (before anything will work) you must have a business checking
or savings account at a bank that can accept electronic deposits. In the
United States, that means you must have some kind of business license.

Many card service providers do not have their own on-line gateway which
means you must pay a separate fee for that. Usually about $20.00 a month.

I cannot recommend <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://2checkout.com" target="_blank">http://2checkout.com</a> since they are doing what is called
factoring. You will not have your own Merchant Card Account and you must
send your customers to them like PayPal or Yahoo. It's like telling your
customers they must go down the street and use another company's cash
register to pay for your products. Would you buy things from a store like
that?

I'd suggest contacting <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.authorize.net" target="_blank">www.authorize.net</a> or <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.merchantwarehouse.com" target="_blank">www.merchantwarehouse.com</a> and
ask them for a recomendation that would work well for you. They both have a
wide variety of options.

You'll also need a good shopping cart that has been certified to work
properly with a gateway. Try <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.authorizenet.com/alliances/carts_cert.php" target="_blank">www.authorizenet.com/alliances/carts_cert.php</a>
for a list to select from. Many designers like osCommerce becuase it is
open source and it was certified recently.

Setting up an on-line store is not a do-it-yourself type project unless you
have experience or are willing to spend a lot of time experimenting. A few
mistakes can result in compromising credit card numbers resulting in
thousands of dollars in fines.

Chris,

Very good information, just that using gateways and own merchant
accounts are expensive for a new startup. I would contridict what you
said about paypal and 2CO. I would go with paypal fast, since no
startup fees or monthly charges. PP now accepts credit card offers
without forcing people to sign-up. Once the bugs have been worked
out, go with PP, then work on driving taffic to your site(SEO,
Advertising, etc), and when traffic/transactions move up to your own
merchant account and verisign or authorize net.

Funny thing about verisign and authoize, their solution to avoid
spendinng time building you own check out page, with SSL, is exactly
like a PP payment solution. They make it possible to send customers
off to their site too, just that now you are still responsible for
your own merchant account setup.

But again, for eveyone very good information Chris, but for the new
startup, I would spend little time at first setting up the check out
process, and use PayPal [only if you have to, use 2 CO Sad ]. Then you
can spend more time on driving traffic to your site, and working out
the kinks.

Good luck eveyone,

Tom @ <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.Love-Calculators.com" target="_blank">www.Love-Calculators.com</a><!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Howdy,

Back to "Pay me now or pay me later!" My standard advice is if you can't
afford to do things right, you are going to end up wasting your time. If
you don't have the money to start a business with good funding, you haven't
finished the process of learning how to run a business, have a poor credit
rating, and dozens of other things that make the difference between
floundering around and getting started with a solid business plan.

Hi Chris,

Just saying... with any startup business it consumes money. No saying
you can start an online business with zero money, or how to, that's
for infomercials. But when it comes to starting up, if you have a
choice between using money to generate traffic, or pay for a payment
processer(when there are FREE respectable options), I will focus on
getting the traffic. So I'll pay later, when I need it.

I'm sure if you can list the number of people who thought "if I build
it, they will come" and they focused just on how to rake in the cash,
the list would have a lot of failures. Money must be had, and used
wisely.

Side story, as a software contractor, I've seen many dot-coms go under
since they were more focused spending money and time on stupid stuff
like having customized checkout pages, rather than Search Engine
Optimized pages, or a proper marketing plan.

But still thanks for your insight Chris...

Oh, to toss in another no setup fee credit card processor,
StormPay.com Haven't used them, but remember them coming up on an
conversation about gateway/merchant account all in one solutions. Has
anyone here used them?

later,
