Post subject: keyword confusion
Archived from groups: alt>internet>search-engines, others (more info?)

Hello Group - I'm new to the webmaster world. I have a background in
print advertising and some coding skills. My goal is to generate
revenue via Google Adsense or some other ad business option. I'm
confused about "keywords". I've read moderately on the subject, but
like everything else, there's no good starting place. I have a few
specific questions. Any response is appreciated.

1) Are keywords included in the copy of a page? (I know they're not
"meta tag keywords" since search engines tend to ignore those today).

2) Are they really the holy grail?

3) Should I purchase one of the hundreds of keyword databases from the
web, and if so which ones are good?

4) Is there somewhere I can read up on the subject so I'll have a clue
what I'm dealing with?

Thanks all ...

Eric,

Since I have no idea how to do what I hope to do (imagine that), I'll
focus on content and inbound links for a year. Maybe this time next
year I'll think about biting off the big ole piece that is Adsense.

Many thanks,

Rob

Just an idea ....

Write down everything you know about Print Advertising, including your
personal history, the jokes, the anecdotes, the technology, the companies
involved, the successes, the failures, what happened when etc etc. Write it
all in your own words and make it really interesting, informative, funny
etc. Assemble it all together as a 50 to 100 page text only web site. The
"added information value" of your web site needs to be very high. Avoid
copying anything that already exists. Link the pages together carefully
and logically, and only as needed. Link to other top quality websites that
your visitors will like to go to where you don't know the answer. Add some
original, well described, pictures. I hope your content really pleases and
satisfies many search visitors. Your search rankings will rise over the
next year or two. Then add a few adverts. If the adverts pay for your
time and hosting charges, well done.

Best regards, Eric.

Yeah, and not only that they want 3000 visitors after a week of being live!
Takes a good amount of time. Which is why I like my main site as it is and
not think like some that it is disposable. Shoot I have invested to much
time into it!
