Hi,
You can not install IIS 6.0 on Windows XP Home. IIS 6.0 is only available
for Windows Server 2003. You can't install it on a previous operating system
because IIS 6.0 uses features/functionality that's only available with
Windows Server 2003 (for example, IIS 6.0 uses a new kernel-mode driver
called http.sys that is directly integrated into the windows TCP/IP stack -
which isn't available on previous OSes)
[Options]
If you just want a generic webserver, then install Apache (www.apache.org)
If you want to run ASP.NET pages, then you can use Cassini
(www.asp.net/Default.aspx?tabindex=7&tabid=41)
If you want specific IIS features, then IIS is not available for Windows XP
Home (this is clearly detailed on the MIcrosoft website, and you should have
checked before purchasing. You may be able to return your copy of Windows XP
Home, and replace it with Windows XP Pro (which has IIS v5.1) or Windows
2003 Server (which has IIS v6.)
Cheers
Ken
