| I agree that it is no real defense. But it would be interesting to
| know how many of us (and by saying 'us', I include myself) simply
| scroll to the bottom of the T&C and click OK in the hope/presumption/
| faith that the company has not hidden some weird clause that one would
| normally question if it were displayed prominently.
|
| For example, if I recall correctly, when you install Google Pack
| software on your PC, they give you the large T&C, but then they prompt
| a big blatant warning that says something like "WAIT A MINUTE, HERE IS
| SOMETHING THAT YOU WILL BE REALLY INTERESTED IN KNOWING BEFORE YOU
| CONTINUE"... followed by a small amount of important text that would
| be easier and quicker to read than a 10 page T&C document.
|
| A vicious circle perhaps? Having customers that would be out to get
| something for nothing, or get out of paying for something when they
| are obliged to.... versus a company that covers their asses so much,
| that it gives the customer the impression that the company can simply
| not be trusted. (Who has read the Windows EULA?)
|
| Even so... their is no clause that says "I am human, and as such,
| there are things (laziness? faith? trust?) beyond my control that deem
| reading the T&C optional".

I have no dog in this fight.

We just had a client move from 1and1.com after 5+ years. Client had no
problem with the auto bill process but DID have serious problems with
1and1.com pulling up old data and billing a dormant account instead of the
account the client had supplied.

What took the rag off the bush was that they were unable to contact anyone
at 1and1 that would discuss the matter.

The only response from 1and1.com was a boiler plate email wanting to know
why they left. Client took the time to respond with no further response
from 1and1.com

Two more proofs that 1&1.com sucks. I complained to them with a long email.
No reply. They gave me the deaf ear.

I paid their collection agency a week ago and my account is still
suspended. I am on hold over the phone right now for over 10 minutes.

This company's customer service is truly bad.

I don't care that you don't care. I want to vent and it's a free country. I
mean a free forum, free speech and you are, most important, free to skip
over my messages.

Venting to us is pointless, take out your anger where it belongs - at
your stupidity for not keeping track of your domains.

And hopefully everyone will follow my example of skipping this thread
from this point forward. I hear enough whining and excuses from my 3
kids, I don't want to listen to yours anymore.

Don't confuse yourself. My earlier post today was about a company's
customer service. It wasn't about the issue that lead to that service.
Consider it a public service to people who will deal with this registrar.

Here's $50 betting that I will see more posts from you and the others in

No they are not. They are about you bitching about stuffing up your account

related. The account could have been for the weekend bloody newspaper, you
still stuffed up. How about you go over to alt.new.york.times and bitch

I've been watching this thread develop with increasing dismay. I believe
that your complaints about 1 and 1 are at least somewhat valid, but they
don't justify such a lengthy thread. That is of course not all your
doing; since you are not the only one who is keeping this thread going.
Quite the contrary. Your part in this is quite small compared to the
number of messages posted by others. Those who attempt to put the blame
solely on you, while they continue to take shots at you, are either
totally clueless or quite disingenuous about their own culpability.

The threats that have been made to silence you are far more troubling.
You have a right to speak your mind here as long as you are not
spamming, stalking, or breaking any laws. The claims I've seen that
accuse you of being "off-topic" are totally groundless. While I fully
support the prohibitions on spam and the netcopping of spammers, I don't
like self-appointed netcops presuming to dictate or enforce what else
they think is or isn't allowed here.

That said, there is also the notion that one should be respectful of the
community that exists here and it's customs. Once you've made your
point, there's no need to belabor it or to argue endlessly about it.
That goes for you and for those who have been arguing with you. Getting
the last word should neither be necessary or desirable if one is
confident of the accuracy of what one has already said. This petty
bickering is quite tiresome and it serves no purpose.

hrm. I thought you said that this was a Free Forum, with Free Speech et. al...
I'm confused, or I've lost my sense of humor...not sure which.

Domain name registration is part of webmastering so they are related. You
can debate for why they are not related.

Domain registration is part of webmastering. Your bitching about not
reading your T&C and not keeping track of your domains is just pissing
into the wind.
