I have an account on Affordablehost's Carme server. It's been down
since mid afternoon yesterday (Saturday June 2Cool.

The only update was over 16 hours ago. This is exactly the same
non-communication as happened a few weeks ago when the Janus server
went down.

Don't webhosts understand that customers *hate* the silence????
Time and time again, customers have said just tell us what is going on
and webhosts don't pay attention. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

This one isn't bad. He/she isn't asking a support question about AH or
trying to contact AH through this newsgroup. He/she is just complaining
about webhosts in general that do do not let their customers know what is
going on and using AH as a example.

True. This NG has become the de facto alt.www.web-host-comparison.

I think that part of the problem here is that when a server goes down all of
the host's energy goes into getting it back up and often times they can't
reliably predict when that will be. Meanwhile the host is bombarded with
support questions demanding to know when their server will be back online.
The most they can say is that the server is down and they are doing
everything they can to get it back online. As a customer, I assume that's
the case when I see a server go down. I don't bother the host because I
figure plenty of people are doing that already. If down time becomes a
problem because the host doesn't deal with it effectively, then it's time to
move on.

But they always wander off in about 14 directions, thus they are never really about Affordablehost.

14 alternative directions to AH threads:

1. Why are chives always accompanied by cheese?

2. Which is better, crunchy M&Ms or Peanut M&Ms?

3. Who is the best, Kirk or Picard? Spock or Data? Some other characters
from your fav TV show...

4. What is the definition of spam in a newsgroup?

5. Who is the president/prime minister of each particular country?

6. Can you name any politicians in the opposition party?

7. Which is evilest(?), frames or the blink tag?

8. Who do you like best, Daddy or chips?

9. Why is it that the traffic lights always change to red when *you* pull
up to them?

10. Who would win in a mud wrestling match, Judy or Tina? ;o)

11. Which is the coolest, a lava lamp or one of them plasma balls?

12. If an unstoppable force hits an immovable object, will the Universe
just cease to be?

13. Why is the number thirteen associated with bad luck?

14. What are the benefits of so-called "reality television"? No seriously,
I totally fail to understand the point.

Feel free to ponder or answer the above.

The 13 came from the number of people present at the last supper. The
'friday' part also came from that, and I guess it's bad luck because how
many people do _you_ know that like to be crucified?

Who cares? Which would you rather see naked, rolling in the mud?

Because Judas was the 13th disciple at the last supper

I really do not understand why that is. I thought most hosts, like
ourselves, had mirrored back-ups - it takes less than 30 seconds to throw
the switxh and all is working again!

I would think that most good hosts already have a response mail out ready so
when something does happen a quick mail out to explain and anticipate does
wonders for clients security<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Technical support is a customer service issue - by my reckoning (based
entirely on guess-work and poor memory) that is the 27th time I've posted
that.
