Post subject: endless page-zone dead ends
Archived from groups: alt>www>webmaster (more info?)

Hi all -

I'm posting here out of desperation. I have a reseller account on
Page-Zone that I use for a handful of very simple vanity sites. Like
one page each, 10 visitors a month, woohoo. I've had the account for
a few years, although honestly I haven't used it much until the last
year or so.

I've got a technical problem that requires that I get some support
from Page-Zone, and that's where I've been stuck for a week now.

I've searched this newsgroup and seen the commentary about how Jim
Snape (PZ admin) discovered in January that his servers weren't being
maintained properly, and since then has been up to his nose in re-
work. I've seen posts from people leaving PZ. But I also know that
frequently you'll see negative posts in these web forums when in
general everything is OK.

Alas, for me it is pretty bad. I can't get into a site that I just
set up two weeks ago. I can't get into the [new] trouble ticketing
system because the registration process goes nowhere. I can't even
LOOK at the trouble ticket queue. I can't register in their customer
forum system (same problem) and I can't even LOOK at the forums
because I'm not registered. I found two phone numbers and there's no
answer at both.

Can anyone help me get their attention? I so so so much do NOT want
to have to migrate my sites to another provider.

- Chris

Alas, what you've just described above is *precisely* why you should be
looking at migrating your sites to another provider.

It was several months before that.

I was hoping, for Jim' sake, that the dust had settled by now.

So, the dust hasn't settled yet.

You have exhausted all of the methods I am aware of.

Agreeing with Marc. There are enough good hosts out there that you
shouldn't have to deal with the problems you are dealing with. The
process of moving your sites may be easier than the process of working
things out at Page-Zone.

I have a former client I had set up at Page-Zone. He recently moved to
another host. He wound up doing the same thing.

> They're making things ugly, not me.

That is sad. When I left (or was asked to leave. I was using up too many
resources. I was already looking for a new host.) Jim refunded me the
unused portion of the last month I had paid for. I didn't think it was
necessary. I never had a problem with Page-Zone when it came to money.

I've never heard of anyone not getting a refund that didn't ask, and
I've been with page-zone about 8 years. Anyone that has asked for a
refund in the history of my company has received it. We've even had
people (in this group!) who have asked for a refund on the remaining
months, got it, then did a chargeback on the whole year. And anyone
that has conducted their life perfectly without error ever, continue
to criticize page-zone all you like. Those that aren't perfect, move
on... talk about the next company that had a problem. Most - by the
vast majority of page-zone customers are perfectly happy, and have
been with us for many years and will continue to be. The customers
with the most problem are the ones that need help troubleshooting
code, which we do not do. We provide the uptime, for a great price -
you provide the code. Period. Blinky, if I remember right, that was
your problem, and even after the site was moved to your new host, the
problem remained. Ifthey helped you fix it all the better, we don't
never have and have it spelled out in the terms of service.

I didn't even get a reply when I tried to cancel my account via email a
couple months ado. I'll just refuse the next charge on my credit card.
They're making things ugly, not me.

There doesn't seem to *be* a process of working things out there.

Something like a 3rd of all posts (like this one) come from GG these
days. Blinky is a fool.

I requested cancelation and refund, if possible, of the time (four or
five months, I think) I was paid ahead. I didn't even get a
confirmation on the cancelation.

Page-Zone is another example of why it's good not to register and
host at the same place.

I saw after posting that Blinky probably wouldn't see the reply due to
posting through google groups. Tried posting it through a newsreader
first but it seems that Earthlink, who is now Embarq has no access to
newsgroups for their customers any longer. That gave me an idea to
build a server and integrate it into webmail for all clients. (the
three that are left anyway).

Last weeks stats for this forum, 1/3rd of all posts came from GG.

OK, so PageZone is reading this and has diligently replied here. So
perhaps by now they've emailed me ...

[thinks to check spam filters]

DAMN IT there's a whole bunch of PZ emails in there! I swear, in
years of using pobox.com this is the first time I've ever had a false
positive with them.

OK, I'm off to go read the PZ emails ... thanks folks for the help.
If I can get my simple sites to work again then I'll stay with PZ.
Right now is simply a horrible time for me to even think about
migrating servers (family problems).

In my case it was about two weeks's worth, and I didn't ask. I didn't
even feel it was necessary.

In Jim's defense - I had prepaid the whole year and politely asked for a
refund of my unused portion when I left last December. 9 months of
unused service was credited back to my card within 48 hours.
