If any of you have an eNom account, they just registered the .info to every
..com in your account. Check under your "redemption" tab. Its $0.00 to
activate it for 1 year. I now have an extra 3000-ish domains in my account.

No, I'll have the option to renew or not. They don't bill you.

its a clever promotion. if they can influence enough sites to use the .info of their name
it will make a standard about us, terms of service, faq format. could catch on, eventually
making another valuable tld out of .info.

Exactly, I bought .info's a when they first came out. Then I lapsed them.
Will take these, as .info may become popular if used more often.

Thanks for the heads up Tina.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Do you have any control over these domains? I just registered one, and I now
have an advertiser on the .info equivalent. (Oingo and Zedo). I get an error
"no registrar lock" when trying to change the dns servers.

Now I find this ...

godaddy are offering 'em at $1/year. i didn't bother finding out if it
was only your existing domains or any .info you want to register.

Apparently they sent/are going to send an email to the registrants with an
activation link at...
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.enom.com/domains/DomainManager.asp?tab=promotion" target="_blank">http://www.enom.com/domains/DomainManager.asp?tab=promotion</a>
You have 45 days to activate.

They appear to have only set up the .info for 150 domains per registrant.

Not true, in either case. The domains are already there, if you click on
either "redemption" or "promotion". We had approximately 3000 info domains
added to our eNom account.

They didn't get all my .com's that had .info's available. For myself and a
couple of other people I know, they only did 150 of them.

Also, The domains are marked active in whois, but are not accessible if you
did not have an enom account before they grabbed the .info. Registering with
enom using the domain owner whois info after the grab does not put them into
your redemption or promotion area.

Just an update on this...

I had contacted my registrar (registerfly - enom reseller) about getting
access to the .info name and they DAK'd it. Told me to go to Sipence.

In the interim, got a response back from enom/Sipence stating that as an
enom reseller, my registrar could activate the domain.

Went back to Registerfly and noticed that they had now added a ".Info Domain
Activation" category to their Trouble Ticket system. Hopefully I'm finally
on the right track.
