Hi

I am trying to find out whether or not it is worth registering domain
names with keywords in them that will then direct you to a company
website. I have heard that, although some search engine marketers
believe it boosts your search engine position due to "search-term
highlighting", most people believe the effect is minuscule and
therefore not worth the cost.

Does anyone have any ideas about this?

Different Search engines will pay attention to it...

I use several domain names...they are only $7.95 for the usual suspects and
was on sale at <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.godaddy.com" target="_blank">www.godaddy.com</a> for the .biz ($4.95) I think you might have
missed the sale though...

I use several domains and php with a config file to make my minute
changes/differences, like the city and the keywords...I also employ a
database behind a lot of it that will allow me to set ... oh wait this is
not a technical group...

Anyway...here are a few domains...notice anything...
.. <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.atlantainternetmarketing.com/" target="_blank">http://www.atlantainternetmarketing.com/</a>
.. <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.dcinternetmarketing.com/" target="_blank">http://www.dcinternetmarketing.com/</a>
.. <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.charlotteinternetmarketing.com/" target="_blank">http://www.charlotteinternetmarketing.com/</a>

they are all the same...very simple to manage..
If I were you I would use gaapweb.com and then ukaccounting.com and
ukfinance.com. And perhaps consider splitting the two departments...if not
financially, definitely virtual on the web site.

What does GAAP stand for?

Howdy Nicola,

There's a bunch of old hype floating around about how to get search engine
standings. This is another one that got popped several years ago.

Having multiple domain names pointing to the same web pages will usually
result in being removed from the search engines for spamming. Hidden
keywords to increase the word count is another killer.

The web crawler programmers are very good at spotting attempts to
artificially improve search engine standings. What works consistently, is
doing a good job to make web pages as honest and user friendly as possible.
