Hi,
I am trying to setup a folder with Windows NT
Authentication. I removed the anonymous access and I added
the users who will have permission to access the folder.
When I go the link it pops up with the USERNAME, PASSWORD
and DOMAIN dialog box. But, when I try to enter the
USERNAME and PASSWORD and the DOMAIN it pops up again with
the same dialog box asking for password and domain. The
password and domain are correct. I am wondering whether it
is somekind of permissions I am missing out on the user
side?
I am not sure what is wrong >> Stay informed about: Windows NT Authentication |

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I went through the Configure IIS 5.0
Website authentication in Windows 2000 and I checked my
settings on the server also and they are as follows:
The folder has the following Security settings:
1. xyzuser with Modify, Read&Execute and List Folder
Contents.
The folder on IIS 5.0 has the following settings on the
Directory Security tab.
Under Anonymous Access and authentication control
Authentication mode is set to use only Integrated Windows
Authentication.
But, still when I access this particular URL it pops up
with the USERNAME, PASSWORD and DOMAIN and when I enter
it, it kind of displays "ENTER NETWORK PASSWORD" window
requesting for password. It looks like that it is not
authenticating properly with the password supplied.
Can something else be wrong somewhere? Cause, 2000 seems
little bit different on permissions side compared to NT
4.0.
The NTFS permissions on the folder has restriction to use
the username created on the server and has been assigned
the following rights.

I don't know what you mean. You say 'it pops up with the USERNAME, PASSWORD
and DOMAIN and when I enter it, it kind of displays "ENTER NETWORK
PASSWORD"' window.
How can it *kind of* display a window? Either it does or it doesn't. What is
this "Enter Network Password" window? Is it a different window than the one
prompting you for Username, Password and Domain?
I would expect you to get an HTTP error at some point something was wrong.
Do you? What does it say?

This means that either the username or password provided is wrong, or that
IIS cannot contact the domain for verification. It does not mean that the
user is denied access (401.3).
