Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

I have installed a wildcard cert on my server and applied it to (4) of
my 150 websites. All of my websites are using an assigned IP address
192.168.1.11. I have applied the SSL bindings into the metabase
however this error still shows up.

No matter how many times I start or stop IIS I get this error (3)
times - EVERYTIME! The sites work but i should not have this error.

One of the IP/Port combinations for site '1884881155' has already be
configured to be used by another site. The other site's SSL
configuration will be used.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at

Do you have an answer for this problem? I have the same issue.

You need to set the host header manually with adsutil.vbs. See here:

That has been done. There are 6 sites and everything appears to work OK.
Everything, that is, except the message in the error log.

Thanks for your help.

Was it error or warning msgs. I remembered in one of the discussion in the
past, this is very annoying and no solution yet.
the ssl is working fine, just that the noise in event viewer is annoying.

It is an error message.

I have been told that the problem is possibly a bug that can be ignored. My
understanding is that IIS support for SSL host headers is only partially
implemented. The SSL configuration includes the port, the IP, and the host
header, but the code that checks for a duplicate entry only examines the port
and the IP.

OK, here it is:

One of the IP/Port combinations for site '44444444' has already be
configured to be used by another site. The other site's SSL configuration
will be used.

Type: Error
Source: W3SVC
EventID: 1113

There are 8 SSL sites on the server that use the host header and the same
wildcard certificate. The error message is repeated for 7 of the sites.

Note that the host header for SSL was added by:
cscript.exe c:\inetpub\adminscripts\adsutil.vbs set
/w3svc/9999999/SecureBindings "0.0.0.0:443:xxxx.yyyy.sssss.ccc"
cscript.exe c:\inetpub\adminscripts\adsutil.vbs set /w3svc/9999999/AccessSSL
TRUE

Note that the IP, site number, and URL are valid for the actual
installation. The wildcard certificate is for *.yyyy.sssss.ccc

Interesting... the event detail is as below : ?

One of the IP/Port combinations for site "<site>" has already been
configured to be used by another site. The other site's SSL configuration
will be used.

I wonder why you got error mmm...
and you sure all host header are unique.. i see you bind to all interface..
have you try to bind to one particular IP only?

Actually, the error is almost the same. Instead of "has already been
configured", it says "has already be configured". A little typo that slipped
through.

I don't have any additional IP addresses to try. Howevder, there are 2 other
sites on the same server that use SSL with a regular certificate. Neither of
those sites have problems.

I am positive that all host headers are unique at the fourth level. They all
use the common root on the wildcard certificate (*.dcnr.alabama.gov).

I am indeed working for a State agency. The state IT group does have a
support contract, but they don't share.
