Web Sites do not start in IIS 5.0

I am setting up IIS 5.0 for the first time on windows 2000 server.

I am unable to start any of the websites, either the default or created sites. I get the message:

"the service did not respond to the start or or control request in a timely fashion"

However, I am able to get the Default SMTP Virtual Server to start successfully.

Looking in the KB I found an article about this problem for servers without a NIC Card installed, but this server has NIC is installed and working fine.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Post the full error, including the event id and source. From the
event viewer.
