Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

I'm having an odd problem with Server 2003 and IIS 6.0 in the last
month or so.

At random intervals (several times an hour), IIS will bogg down the
internet connection. If I go in and stop the services for the default
(and only) web site, things go back to normal.

I later tried "prohibiting" several services, which now seem to have
fixed the issue (for now):

I set to prohibit: "Bits server extensions, ASP.NET v1.1.4322,
Internet Printing, Internet Data Connector, and WebDav" Some of these
I will need to renable like ASP.net.

Any thoughts as to what could be causing the bogg down.. I also
checked event viewer for info, but there were no relevant messages.

Thanks

Mark,

Do you have the FTP service installed and running ? Issue a
netstat -ano command at the command prompt to see if anything is
listening on port 21.

If there is, check to see if you have anonymous access enabled and if
that anonymous account has write access anywhere on your system.

If the answer to the above two questions is yes, it could be that your
server has been 'tagged' and someone may be using your bandwidth to
host warez, etc.

Of course, this may not be the case but it is worth checking for
nonetheless...

Thanks for the reply.

I dont actually have the ftp services installed.

So I don't think any of that applied.

Things are still working fast and smooth with the services I mentioned
before, disabled. So it must be that one of them was causing the random
bog down.
