Post subject: Web Server Idle
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

I have Windows XP Professional, and am trying to use the web server for
either Frontpage or ColdFusion, but am unable to do so. I originally had
Norton Internet Security Professional 2004 installed which, according to
Norton and Microsoft, was causing the problem. However, I've since then,
purchased a router, and followed ever uninstall article on Nortons site to
uninstall it. Unfortunatly, the web server still doesn't work.

If I try to create a server-based web in FrontPage using
'http:/localhost/[web name]' or 'http://127.0.0.1/[web name], I receive a
popup that reads "Web Server Idle", then, it prompts me for a
default_realm username and password...I have no idea what this would be as
I have never set any passwords on this PC.

If I use my PC name instead of localhost, I get a dialog box that reads
"Can not find a Web server at '[pcname]'. Please check to make sure that
the web server name is valid and your proxy settings are set correctly.
If you are sure that everything is correct, the Web server may be
temporarily out of service."

Can anyone help???

Michelle

If I try to view a ColdFusion page, (e.g., the CF Admin program, which is
a web site on my PC) I just get the "page can not be displayed page.

Open a command prompt and type:

ping <your pc name>

then

ping localhost

What does it return?

XP Firewall? Zone Alarm? Any firewall or AV software running? Does
a "Hello World!" page work? Are you sure you have the correct FPSE
setup and the files are where you think they are?
