I am looking for a good offline log file analyzer that is suitable to
export PDF reports I can sell to clients.

I'm aware of AW Stats, Webalizer, etc. but the reports they produce
rely too much on tables of numbers, which will just go over the heads
of my non-technical clients. I need something with lots of pretty
charts and plain English explanations of what they mean as well as a
detailed analysis of visitor traffic. I would ideally like to be able
to configure the software to brand exported reports with my own
business name and logo.

I have been evaluating Mach 5s FastStats Analyzer
(http://www.mach5.com/products/analyzer/). It seems pretty good and is
cheap. But branding of reports is a problem and it may be a little
basic too. Are there any similar tools out there, aimed at the
reseller?

TIA,
Tom.

Tom,

Stats are tables of numbers. Rather than dumb down the stats and make
them even more useless than they are, you should educate your customers.

I wrote sometime ago this:
http://johnbokma.com/perl/google-search-cloud.html

It exports to HTML, which can be converted to PDF (either using a PDF
printer driver, or Open Office)

There are more scripts on my site, but the rest output numbers (and
numbers + colors)

for improvements contact me at contact @ johnbokma dot com.

Jerry,

If clients had the time or inclination to spend time away from running
their businesses to analyze and interpret log files then people like
us would be out of bread and butter. Non-technical business people
need the data to be presented to them in a form they can digest and
understand. So they pay me to keep it simple for them. If I didn't to
than then I would be useless to them. Customers are funny like that.

Yep, same with mine. And with the correct information, they are able to
look at the charts I supply and intelligently discuss what will help
them do better in their business.

My clients know their businesses much better than I or anyone else
outside the company do. And they are eager to know what will help them
do better.

But only they can perform an accurate analysis on the data based in
their needs and goals. What is good for one customer may be bad for
another.
