Hi,
No, you cannot change this.
Depending on the design of your website, one user can use multiple
connections.

You cannot change the limit XP has. XP is not meant to be a cheap web
server, so they have this limit.

XP Pro allows 10 connections. This limit is installed by default in the
metabase key MaxConnections for W3SVC, and there is no user interface method
for modifying the setting. You can change this setting to any number less
than 40 and it works, but that is not widely advertised.
Just use MetaEdit & change the above mentioned key ....

That is incorrect, because any other web server as well only can have 10
connections on XP.
It is a built-in software limit.
If what you're saying is in fact true, it is a strict violation of the XP
license.

provided in this EULA, you may install, use, access,

Ive had the same problem too - here are some of the responses I received,
although none have worked
Im the only user, so I cant see why MY computer cant have multiple
connections that I open for testing.
Try disabling HTTP Keep-Alives in IIS. Read this for more :
Error Message: HTTP 403.9 - Access Forbidden: Too Many Users AreConnected
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://support.microsoft.com/?id=262635" target="_blank">http://support.microsoft.com/?id=262635</a>
Run
c:\>netstat -a
and see where your HTTP connections are going to...

Ok -
I don't want to keep beating a dead horse but I have seen several other
threads in the various newsgroups about this very issue & would like to get
some clarification on the issue.
I know of several tools / utilities out there that will allow you to host
multiple web sites on 2K Pro & XP Pro. Following your logic, if I edit the
metabase to allow more than the 10 users, I am in violation of the EULA --
I won't argue that point with you because you are right - they make it is
pretty clear in the EULA. Forget about the metabase issue for a minute...
Are you violating the EULA if you use one of these tools I mentioned to host
5 web sites? Still have the 10 user maximum connection limitation. I'm
fairly certain you're going to tell me that, yes, I am in violation & I
partly agree with you. So my next question is, why hasn't MS gone after
these people & put them out of business? I am not talking about warez or
cracks or even editing Metabase entries -- I am talking about software that
is for sale right now on the web.
I guess I've always thought of tools or add-ons that enhance your OS as a
good things & not the other way around. I mean, does that mean everyone who
is running Cold Fusion, Tomcat, PHP or any of the other numerous add-ons out
there are breaking the EULA? Technically, we are changing/augmenting IIS's
capabilities, are we not, when we run these apps?
I really hope that someone from MS sees this & is able to shed some light on
this as its pretty obvious that there are differing opinions on this
subject..

Jeffrey,
In case there's a mistake here - I do not work for Microsoft. That's first
off. Everything I say is me, not Microsoft.
That said, what tools do you know of that allow IIS 5.1 on Windows XP to
host more than one website at the same time? There are ways to have more
than one website, but IIS only allows one to run at a time on workstations.
If you aren't talking about IIS then it doesn't matter - the one running
website limit is only on IIS. If you want to tell me that Apache on XP
allows more than one website, then OK, I know that. The same way you can
install Apache on Home Edition (but Home has a 5 connection limit, not even
the 10 Pro gives you)
It's also not 10 users, it's 10 simultaneous connections. Assuming clients
are running unmodified Internet Explorer, that's 5 people at once.

Actually, in the testing I did, it *seems* to work but actually
doesn't. I was never able to get more than ten connections even
changing the registry key.
YMMV.

Actually, Apache doesn't appear to have this limit when run on
workstation systems.
