Post subject: Trouble with client certificate mapping on IIS 5
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

When attempting to map a client certificate to an local machine account using
IIS certificate mapping I get an "The certificate file is not valid." error
even though the certificate is in fact valid. Using the same certificate I
was able to map it before. The only change that was made was to use Metaedit
to disable certificate revovation list (CRL) checking.

Here is what I have tried so far. I went back and removed the entries in
the Metabase that were added to disable CRL checking so that everything
should be as it was when I could made the certificate. I have tried numerous
different client certificates and they all give the same error.

The configuration of the machine is W2K w/ SP4 and all updates applied. The
certificates are issued by the Department of Defense (DoD) and the root CA
certificate is installed on the machine.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
