I cannot figure out how
http://russelldavies.typepad.com/eggbaconchipsandbeans/ won a prize in the
soapbox category. Am I supposed to be able to search for caffs in my local
area? Or just read about the 5 or 6 that have been written about? Am I
missing something?

Once upon a time, far far away, the king summoned "elyob"
<newsprofile RemoveThis @gmail.com> who replied:

I thought so, too....But then I read on and yes, you are missing
something, so I shall quote:

"So for all the visitors from Yahoo maybe I should explain what this
page is all about.

It started as a page about my personal obsession with the traditional
British fry-up - specifically egg, bacon, chips and beans. Which is
what I always order. But it (along with my other site
agoodplaceforacupofteaandathink.com) has also become a way of
documenting a quickly disappearing slice of British culture - the
traditional cafe. And it's become a place where people are discussing
the idea of a Cafe Preservation Society. (See here and here ). (And if
you want to see more great cafes then hi yourself hither, hither,
hither and, of course, thither."

Once he mentions a "disappearing slice of British culture" I became
interested, yes, this is an important site...

If your encyclopaedia doesn't list "widget glass", you're reading the wrong encyclopaedia.
The Probert Encyclopaedia. Its not the same.

I still can't see it as a 'best site of the year'. As a personal crusade,
great, but as a useful informative site, no.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
