I just signed up for 1and1.com?s free three years of hosting. I then
changed the DNS to point to 1and1?s nameserver and after a few hours
the DNS picked up on the change.
However, now my e-mail doesn't work. Every time I send an eMail to the
account I created with 1and1, I get the following error:
Unable to deliver message to the following address(es).
<Daniel----AT----d-goldman.org>:
217.160.230.10 does not like recipient.
Remote host said: 550 relaying to <daniel----AT----d-goldman.org>
prohibited by
administrator
Giving up on 217.160.230.10.
It has been already two days since I created the eMail account and it
still doesn?t work.
Any ideas why?
Thanks,
Daniel Goldman

I'm sure 1&1 hosting would be able to tell you...since you're paying them,
I'm sure they'd be happy to help.

Yeah, it's not like anyone ever uses this newsgroup for host-specific
support....

Actually, alot of people post host-specific support questions here.
If the host has reasonable methods for contacting their support staff, it
doesn't quite make sense to me why they would come here first...especially
if they are paying for hosting.

Gotcha how, exactly? I don't remember ever telling anyone to post in usenet
for hosting support.
I don't care who the host is...AH included...if a customer is paying for
hosting, they should contact the host for support first. Find somewhere
where I've said otherwise, then maybe your 'gotcha' might make sense.

I was just playing on the AH pseudocontroversy that pops up from time
to time with tongue firmly in cheek
Seriously, personally, I don't really mind seeing host-specific questions
in here - it gives me an insight into issues that some hosts have, which
can affect whom I recommend for hosting business or not. We see the same
type of thing in can.internet.highspeed where a few hosts pop up from
time to time when their clients ask support-related questions. One host,
in particular, has earned a fair bit of respect from the more technically
savvy by his frequent appearences in the NG and not being willing to kiss
the posterior of anyone just because they pay him $29.95 a month for DSL
I rather suspect that you, along with a few other regulars in this NG who
are hosts, have earned a fair bit of respect amongst your peers for
contributing your insights to the group - that would include my respect,
as well

The *only* person I replied to, before your "gotchaa" comment was D Goldman,
the original poster, telling him that he should ask his host for help.
Figuring his host would know more about their mail server setup than anyone
here.
So, again, I ask..."gotchaa" how, exactly and how did I "bite" on Marc's
comment when you replied before I did?
