I am looking for a clean and simple template for me to post my essays.
I am not looking for a blog since I find them too cluttered. I just
want to have a nice design that focuses on the writing with as few
links as possible.

Do you have any technical experience? Can you write HTML, etc? Or are
you looking for a content management system that's not a blog?

One option may be to pick a template from somewhere like OSWD (http://
www.oswd.org/) and use a WYSIWYG editor like Dreamweaver to edit it.
