I am currently running two servers with dual NICs with Windows 2003
Web Edition and Application Center 2000 SP2. I am using them for
multiple web site hosting. Can I still use static IP addresses for
the web sites and if so how do I configure this so if one server goes
down the other picks up the IP?

If not is the only other way to use host headers for the multiple
sites and point them all to the load balanced cluster IP address?

Thanks

If you use the dedicated IP of any machine,
the site will only 'stay' there. it will be 'load balance'.

In your case, you will need to setup multiple sites with
host header and bind to the cluster IP.

I have figured out how to use static IP address in load balancing the
servers.

Here is what I did for anyone who is interested:

Because I am using dual NICs one NIC on each server is connected to
our normal network. The other two NICs are connected to each other
through a Gigabit switch, (but any hub or switch will do, and through
research it is better to use a separate hub or switch rather than
plugging directly into your main switch because of increased broadcast
traffic.)

Once the connection is made and the load balancing configured on the
internal or Gigabit connected NICs you can assign virtual static IP
addresses to the load balanced IP.

To do this, open the load balancing manager under administrative
tools. Give the internal NICs separate IP addresses, (i.e. 10.10.10.1
and 10.10.10.2). Configure a load balance IP (i.e. 10.10.10.3). From
within the load balance manager you can assign virtual IPs to the load
balance IP or the 10.10.10.3 address.

This should take care of it.

And since you using dual NICs, multicast should be disabled.
broadcast traffic is much lesser in a switch, I'm running at this config.
No problem at all.
