Is it just me or does the female voice in Opera (Win) actually speak
'operate' when speaking text 'opera 8'?

Anyone else use this tool to listen to their sites during development? or
recommend any others?

Sounds like "Opera 8" to me. Smile There's emphasis on different syllables.

I use it on occasion to speak sites to see if they make sense, but I
haven't gotten to the point where I make design decisions because of it.
Perhaps I'll get there eventually.

Foxyvoice (http://foxyvoice.kenche.info/) uses the Microsoft speach api
to 'read' pages in Firefox.

Brilliant! and you can add extra voices (to WinXP and WS3) from here...
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://inspiredcode.net/4VisImp.htm" target="_blank">http://inspiredcode.net/4VisImp.htm</a>

There's also this project: <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://clc-4-tts.cjb.net/" target="_blank">http://clc-4-tts.cjb.net/</a> which I didn't load
for no other reason than it will probably conflict - uses the same engine,
SAPI

Now then, Voice for IE?

great link David, but it's not a real speech-web browser experience because
we can't navigate with it (blind, blindfolded or eyes closed that is) so
it's of limited value for proofing WCAG WAI. still, it's a fun app. it's
not picking up image alt text either.
