I want to have a sound file play when the Home Page loads.
Is there a way to have it only play once on each visit - when the visitor
opens the site, not when he returns to the home page after viewing another
page?
Thanks

LV

yep - several.

I should think a session cookie coupled with some server side data store
would do it.

Note: There have been many discussions in here and elsewhere about the
advisability (or otherwise) of pushing noise at your unsuspecting
victims/visitors.

The technical axiom that nothing is impossible sinisterly implies the
pitfall corollory that nothing is ridiculous.

That may be, but this site is for a small group, and the (short) piece of
music involved is something members said they would like integrated into the
site.

Multimedia?

The more the better...! A decent sound engineer, a broadband connection -
its a truly interactive multimedia experience rather than a page of text (as
long as thats what the user wants) probably not best on the home page, but
that page they click on which says "hear us" I have heard some VERY good use
of sound on the web... and some VERY VERY VERY bad use of sound on the
web...

Be careful what format you use
wav - universally exceptable, except that it needs huge file sizes
..mp3 - smaller, less well excepted - but good
Real - I dont like it, but most people do... good for speech, I have
produced some good poetry interactivity with it...
Flash - probably the best way to go...
