Post subject: Sloppy webmasters
Archived from groups: alt>www>webmaster (more info?)

Occasionally I come across a form that seems to be done in a hurry without
sufficient testing.

This morning I used this form to submit a ticket for technical support at
Asus, a major company for computer components, specially motherboards.
http://www.asusmall.com.tw/forms/complaint_tsd.asp

- First the word 'complaint' shouldn't be used. Not all support issues are
complaints and complaint is a strong word.

- Font used in the form is ugly.
- Imporper English in different places. "Thank you very much for Asus"? I
wish foreign companies would proofread their sites for English speaking
customers using people who know English well, specially when I chose
N.America as my location.

- I filled out the form and left out phone number and city and the form
bounced back with this error message:
"Please check the following fields that may be wrong or not been selected
yet: email, country, product type, inquiry type and area of inquiry."

The webmaster has no idea which fields I filled since they mentioned fields
I actually filled out or those fields that do not exit. There's no inquiry
type nor area of inquiry. It didn't mention the two fields I missed.

- Every form should indicate which fields are required.
- (I dislike companies who hide their phone numbers or make them
unavailable on their website)

Just my pet peeve.

I went to your form at <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.cheapesthosting.com/contact.html" target="_blank">http://www.cheapesthosting.com/contact.html</a>
There are no required fields and you can simply click submit all day long
and it just redirects to another page.
Sloppy.

Your number is not on your site. Support or contact pages.

My pet peeve?
I wish you'd simply just post your URL here every day and spare us the
drivel.

Unless you created that Asus form, you're being pretty sour for no reason.

Movie critics don't make the best film directors. What's the relationship
between a site I recommend and a site that I critizied? I can recommend
cnn.com (which I use as one of my news sources) however I can spend all day
long criticizing their popup ads/new window ads..etc. I never claimed to be
a webmaster guru.

Advice that you don't go by. Did I win you as a friend with your snide
comments? No.

yeah.. and different people react differently to this disease. Some people
exhibit no symptoms, know better and move on and others keep hemorrhaging
and are unable to cure themselves.
I am glad this specific disease ( Sweeneytitis) is contained in a.w.w only.
Good riddance.
