Hi there,

I am deciding to build my first ecommerce website. At present I am
looking towards Volusion (http://volusion.com), MagentoCommerce
(http://magentocommerce.com) and X-Cart (http://x-cart.com).

All of them have good and bad sides, but I am interesting at live
experience and level of support.

As I have a little experience in this field and short on time for
personal detailed investigations. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi, DevelMan. When I was making my own research on shopping carts,
most features coincided. So, I would rather seek for the most support.
Like 24/7 engineers, and phone and chat. What I appreciate in my cart
providers is that I can request speedy answer.

Thanks for reply,

Would you like to share the results of your research?

I see that by date the number of features included is approx. the same
for all solutions.
For the first time the professional support team would be very
helpful.

I look forward to your reply.

Hi guys

DevelMan, i have the same dilemma ) Would like to find out
r_e_l_i_a_b_l_e software, will be glad to share my search results with
you.

From what i have found about these packages, Magento is to be a great
solution in the future ))) I liked their demo version (cool design),
however it is a new one thus i'm afraid it is not suitable when you
are looking for reliability...

Volusion is a hosted one, that could be great advantage if they
provided good service. Seems not ( i have heard they constantly kick
customers out and have bad support level. And what's more, it is built
on Microsoft 2003 server , that is not acceptable nowadays/

X-cart seems to be a suitable one. Used by lots of customers
(according to search results on intenet), has many features, and
customers compliment their support and programming services.

You always can use free solutions , however you don't get official
support in this case.
So, it seems from your list x-cart is the best. By i will look into
other solutions also.

Westy, will you share your experience? I would appreciate .

Very great points here ... I am in the same boat shopping for an
shopping cart solution

Here are some of my experiences

1. X-cart : I've set up a site years back, very functional, archaic when
it comes to fiddling with the default design and custom coding w/ smarty
templates takes some time. Overall, probably the best

But ... I am looking for alternatives as well ...

2. Magento - intalled easy, PHP5 required (not that big a deal), but
caution here .... very very slow loading initial page (check out their
forums). What concerns me, this is not ready, but great potential.

3. I'm exploring CRELoaded now, having issues with installation of their
free version Sad (register globals need to be on)

4. OsCommerce - debatable ... concerned about support and updates. Not
much activity it seems (I could be wrong) in this area

5. Hosted solutions - trying to stay away from. There are a few that
really stick out nice, but concerned about not having control.

6. Want want want SEO functionality (Magento it seems comes out on top)

Bottom line, I'll probably have to revisit xcart. Their previous support
was fine, but took time

Would be great to hear your outcomes

Howdy,

What you want is an Ecommerce Server that can handle anything a business
enterprise might need covered.

Open http://bizynet.biz for a live store demo.

The BIZyCart Ecommerce Server's home page is at http://bizycart.com and its
on-line manual is at http://manual.bizycart.com and the assets include a
complete Search Engine Optimization manual (http://seo.bizycart.com).

There's a lot to look at. I provide 24/7 support for my clients and you are
welcome to call any time day or night.

Thanks, Chris www.bizynet.com and www.bizycart.com

OsC is a valid solution, but to make it really work you would have to
add a great number of contributions

CRELoaded offers a large number of contributions already integrated to
OSC. But it's buggy as hell and to get a decent version you have to pony
up bucks for their non-free version and support.

osCMAX which you didn't mention is another alternative. All free it
offers most of the stuff in CRELoaded but debugged and then a great deal
more. It uses a different template engine, but it's not hard to learn
and use.

My company started with osCMax as the base of our product and then added
a number of contributions MAX didn't have as well as a number of our own
contributions that we have not released to the community (I am the
original author of the OSC Recover Carts contribution - which is bundled
in both CRE and MAX.).

I have found that, as products go, the OSC family will meet 95% of a
stores needs with contributions. MAX offers the best overall debugged
pre-integration on the market.

[Please not that unlike Mr. Gunn, I don't promote my company or product
here. Also, I am active on the oscMAX forums and even show up on the OSC
forums on occasion; both under the handle met00 and I do actively answer
questions and offer up code - for free.]
