Windows 2003 Ent server has IIS6 service enabled with Sharepoint services

now every time any of the Admins logs on to this server, there is a SQL
service mgr icon in the system tray with nothing but a white circle over the
icon

task manager shows SqlMangr.exe and SqlServr.exe running

there is no way to configure the SQL Service Manager, it shows "not
connected"
there are also no services listed in the dropdown box

is this normal or is something missing in the configuration?
why is the icon visible?

Hi,

I think this is a known issue with MSDE that will be fixed the next time
MSDE is updated.

It is fine and everything is working fine

In case you were wondering, Sharepoint installs MSDE if it doesn't find a
SQL, which is why it is there at all

For a Work-Around to connect the SQL Manager to the MSDE instance you may take a look at my posting in the Thread 'Subject: Re: Service Manager does not show 'service' status (instance...' (search for sqlmangr just two threads below this one)

Bye
