I've got a Windows 2003 server with IIS6 up and running. I'm using an application pool and running my web application under a domain user account that has no special privileges.

I've got everything working (integrated security to SQL server, access to network file shares, application running). The only problem I'm having is sending e-mail. It gives me an error when creating the CDO.Message object.

Mail works fine (though other stuff doesn't) when running under the Network Service identity.

Is there a strange permission that needs to be set for the specified user in order the send SMTP based e-mails? I'm using the standard system.web.mail interfaces and not doing anything fancy.

Thanks in advance...

Telling us the exact error would be helpful.

The totally useless error I'm getting:

The standard 8004005: Could not access 'CDO.Message' object

I'm guessing it's a permission error, as everything works if I switch the appliction pool to run under the default "Network Service" account.

The error occurs when I do the System.Web.Mail.SmtpMail.Send(email) call.

I know others have had this problem, I've just never seen a fix for it.

Thanks

Googling came up with:
