Post subject: SEO Question??
Archived from groups: biz>ecommerce (more info?)

Hi,

I am just starting on SEO techniques and from my reading there are so
many things like good website design , Contents , Meta Tags , ALT tag ,
links etc etc.
I want to focus this discussion on building links.

I know this is a tough job.some of the methods in use are:
1) Add your site to a directory
2) Get affiliates to put your products on their website.
3) paid one way link

Now I have a question.I want to do all this and I am having good
response but how about I create one or two dummy websites which
contains information about the products I sell.

For example I create www.homedecor-dummywebsite.com and write
informartive home decorating articles/tips and insert pictures of my
products which links to my actual website from where I sell.

Will this kind of link help my actual website. Will this link be
considered a valid link?

Better yet could this dummy website be hosted by geocities for free so
that I do not have to pay for my dummy website hosting?

OR THIS is just a stupid Idea??
Any Comments will help

Also can someone suggest a good book from Amazon(no ebooks please)

Thanks
SEO Students.

Hi there,

Adding the website to Directory, Getting affiliates and one-way linking
from better PR sites will help gain visibility and traffic. However,
you have to be careful that you do not get a link from a site that is
1) Banned by search engines
2) Is a link farm
3) Is submitted to an inappropriate category
4) Is not hosted on shared IP address

Now to your question...
1) Creating Dummy websites will be helpful as far as you keep the
content rich, highly informative and get quality sites link to your
dummy sites.
2) I am not of the opinion of linking Pictures from your dummy site.
Instead, I would suggest you to link text from within the content of
your site. I believe, text link is always more valuable than a link
from a picture. Secondly, while writing, make the linking to you main
site look very obvious and visitors should not feel that they are being
forced to go you main site. I would suggest you to get some tips about
SEO copywriting before you start your dummy sites.
3) I believe, Managing a site at Geocites should not be a problem if
you have an original, informative content to offer to visitors and have
other sites link to you.

I hope this will help you answer you questions.

Best,
Marc

Thank you
I thought so that dummy sites are ok as long as they are rich in
content.
That's why we all come across Geocities hosted home pages every now and
then.

I am somewhat new to this as well but, you might want to consider
creating some blogs that refer to your web site. I understand that
search engines like Google love Blogs.
