We installed IIS on Windows 2003 Standard Edition Server. If we rename the
server, does it affect IIS?

Thanks.

Hi Diane,

No, it does not affect IIS. IIS does not care about the computer name.

For additional information, you may want to read this blog post from David
Wang:

"HOWTO: Rename the Computer running IIS6"
http://blogs.msdn.com/david.wang/archive/2006/05/01/HOWTO_Rename_the_C...uter_ru

Hope this helps!

I would say it depends on who is accessing your IIS, how, and from where.

If it is being accessed from the public Internet, via a registered domain
name it should make no difference. Depending on how you have your internal
network configured however, it could make a difference internally. Is the
machine name used in any hardcoded scripts? Is there any drive mapping to
the web server going on internally? Etc.
