Post subject: Reinstallation of IIS how about IUSR_?
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

I have some problem getting SSL to work on a server and as a resort would
like to reinstall IIS. I am following:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/302573/EN-US/
But have some questions before I proceed with actual going through the
procedure:

1. My folder permissions on the IUSR account are highly customized at the
moment. Since the IUSR account will be deleted when
uninstalling/reinstalling IIS, will my customization be lost or will they
revert to previous settings?

2. Step 6. in restoring says the following:
6. Double-click the IWAM_computername user account. Type the
WAMUserPass value that you retrieved from the previous step and click OK.

If I try to doubleclick the IWAM_computername user account now before going
through the process it just comes up with the general tag with Full name and
description. Where are you supposed to type the WAMUserPass when you get to
that step?

Hi,

Your previous ACL entries will remain. However the new IUSR account will
have a different SID, so things won't just work "out of the box"

One option would be to use groups rather than assigning permissions to
individual user accounts. Then you can just put the new IUSR account into
the group.

In terms of Step 6 - I can't remember exactly what Windows 2000 works (it's
been a long time!), but try right-clicking on the accounts and choosing "Set
Password" instead.

Cheers

HI Ken

Is there a smart way/tool that can ease the process? Problem is that I
various places deep in the folder structure have given the IUSR write access
for various reasons and it would be a major pain to replicate.
Is there a way to assign rights to a group so the rights replicate an
existing user?

You can use command line tools like xcacls.exe to save the existing ACLs,
and then reimport them once you've done the reinstallation.

Isn't that one folder at a time + not subfolders
?

You can use a simple VBScript file or similar to recursively traverse your
folder structure. There are examples on the 'net

You are probably correct. I just can't seem to find one. I have tried
various google searches, but no luck
