Can anyone recommend a simple, flexible e-commerce solution for Linux?

I want it to handle a simple shopping cart that downloads documents and
software. It doesn't even have to be a shopping cart as such: one download -
one payment. There is no shipping as such, only downloading after the
customer pays. Payment should be simple, like even via PayaPal. One of the
main things is I want to track sales by campaign where the buyer enters a
valid code that indicates the source of where he heard of the product.

'Should of course be easy to install & maintain.

Many thanks,

Dave

The Kurant StoreSense solution should do what you want. They have a link to
run through a demo store from their web site at <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.kurant.com." target="_blank">www.kurant.com.</a>

You would be best advised to look at osCommerce -
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.oscommerce.org." target="_blank">http://www.oscommerce.org.</a>

It's open source, and there are contributions for downloadable
content, and paypal IPN payment methods. It's *nix friendly, and only
requires mySQL/php - which are very common among *nix hosting
providers. If your hosting doesn't provide the necessary basic
requirements, I'd suggest moving. If you host your own server -
perhaps you can hire a sys admin to add anything you don't have - or,
using cpan, it's normally a piece of cake, although a little apache
config knowledge might be required.
