Paul,
Thank you for your help.
Regretably, I had already tried the suggestions in this
article. The results were:
Test 1: Ping the Server - successful.
Test 2: Visit the Server - unsuccessful. Since my
attempts to publish to this server have failed there are
no webs to view.
Test 3: Open the Web in FrontPage - unsuccessful. Since
my attempts to publish to this server have failed there
are no webs on this server to open in FrontPage.
Test 4: Check FrontPage Server Extensions
Step 1 - Author.dll/Admin.dll are listed
- I looked at article 275546 "Troubleshoot
Continuous Password Prompts in FrontPage" but
here's what I found, "NOTE: These steps do
not work on a computer that is running
Microsoft Windows NT or Windows 2000."
- This article applies only to FrontPage 2000
running on Windows 95 or Windows 98. I am
running FrontPage 2002 on Windows XP.
Step 2 - Since there are no pages on this server, I
cannot do this step.
Step 3 - When I execute this command I do not get a
prompt for user name and password. I get a
page with this:
method=
status=
status=262148
osstatus=0
msg=Unknown CONTENT_TYPE: "".
osmsg=
I just have a feeling I'm missing something simple. When
I installed IIS on my server and FrontPage on my
notebook, both used all of the default settings and were
successful. The web I developed with FrontPage is stored
in the folder "My Webs" on my notebook's hard drive. It
is a simple web and works fine there.
In the past, when I have published webs from FrontPage to
a hosting service, I was prompted for my user name and
password, which were assigned to me when I registered for
the service (I use ValueWeb). However, when I try to
publish to my own IIS server on my LAN, the prompt I
receive for the user name is not blank. It seems to
contain the anonymous user ID, which is grayed-out so
that I cannot change it.
Here's my questions: When FrontPage tries to publish a
web and it contacts the FrontPage Server Extensions on
the IIS server, how does the server know which user names
and passwords are authorized to publish to the server?
Thanks again for your help.
Jeff
