Post subject: Problems with multiple web sites on SBS 2003 Std Edition
Archived from groups: microsoft>public>inetserver>iis (more info?)

Ok, SBS Std ships with the "default web site" and "companyweb" both
on port 80 already.....

I have moved my company web site over and I want to use my single
ip address for "my" web site. Problem is, my registar, radiant.net asks
for an ip and nameserver list (1-4) only. Please don't suggest using NAT,
I bought a P.O.S. firebox firewall that does not support static NAT.
Yeah I know, my fault....

Anyway, my other option is host headers on my web site....

Problem, no one has been able to tell me how to test web sites on a local
computer that use host headers because my current web site that has not
been moved yet resolves to anything I use as the host header.
www.domain.com,
or domain.com. And besides, what do you tell your registar to point their
servers at when you use host headers???

Thanks a ton in advance for any help

I test locally with host headers by adding new entries to my hosts file
(c:\windows\system32\driver\etc\hosts), which you could think of as
'mini-DNS', in a way.

as for pointing your domain name at them, some registrars allow you to
specify either a set of nameservers (2 or more) or to use their nameservers
and just point at a single IP address. I currently have one domain
temporarily set up that way myself, my border router's IP in the name
settings, a host header on the IIS end and port forwarding through two
routers to get to IIS. (yes, it's only temporary, I wouldn't leave it like
that for long)
