We have a site that hosts video files. The files can be downloaded. I am
worried that perhaps a file can get very popular and cost me hundreds of $$$
in extra bandwidth fees. Is there an app I can use to prevent such abuse,
perhaps that can limit the current requests to a video file by a certain
amount? Or some other solution?

Does anyone have expereince in this they can share?

Thanks!

Many such customers (adult providers particularly) use our software to
control such problems. You can either allow each client to download at
a specific rate, or you can allow downloads at different rates
depending on how many are downloaded at ones. You can also easily cap
the bandwidth used by the server at any given time, as well as reduce
the allowance once a daily or monthy bulk threshold is reached,
depending on how you are billed. By using tunable bursting parameters,
you can allow short, fast downloads and throttle to lower levels for
larger downloads. There are many ways to skin a cat.

Dennis,

I am not looking for a hardware solution. Too expensive.
