I'm looking for a good service that can get me a lot of hits.

So far, I've built my site, I'm getting a relatively small amount
of very targeted hits and am making my money back, but I
want to take it to the next level.

Therefore, I would like to ask - does anyone have experience
with reliable services, like hits-4-sale.com, that promise
10,000 per month for about $30,-.

Are there any similar services? Which are the good ones?
In future, I might go for an adult site as well.

Alex

Can they guarantee that it will be qualified traffic?.....There's no point
in getting 10,000 visitors who are looking for star trek fan sites if you're
trying to sell car seat belts.......

If you're thinking of paying for traffic, and you're selling a product, you
could do a lot worse than Kelkoo or Dealtime......And I'd look into Googles
Adwords system too before I gave money to a company that makes claims like
"10,000 guaranteed visitors per month".......

In almost every one of these cases these extra "hits" aren't people seeing
your site. Some are just computers that are set to view your site over and
over again until you get your requisite number of hits... others are your
site included in a hidden frame (or iframe) on a site or pop up banner that
gets a fair number of traffic

You would be better off spending your money on search engine placement,
google adwords or advertising on a relevant site than just buying hits from

They're not very clear about how they would do it. However, if they
have a large site with similar content and put up a banner..... any
ideas on other methods that they might be using?

Precisely. Any such schemes that get people in "by the back door" have to
be viewed with caution, especially at $30 for 10,000!

According to the "hits-for-sale" site, their traffic "... is delivered
via full size exit windows in our network with at least 80 – 90%
unique visitors. Traffic comes from re-directs and pop-unders (not
anoying pop-ups)."

They sound bogus to me. Anyone who draws a line between pop-ups and
pop-unders is suspect, and if that's their best foot forward, I can
only imagine what other lies and half-truths they operate under.
Re-directs may send users unsuspectingly to your site, and in this
case the traffic is worse than useless, because it's a waste of
bandwidth. Some kinds of businesses can profit from this, but most
will not. An adult site might, because of its broad appeal, and you
might make your money back on a 0.01% turnover. While they guarantee
a specific number of visits, they make no other claims for useability
and you should note that the "30 day money back guarantee" is
prorated.

You'll probably get more for your money by listing on "Yahoo!" for
$299, but for $30 it might be worth a shot. If you go for it, please
post your results back here.

Overture.com charges from 10 cents per click (you compete with other
members for prominence). They have contracts with hotbot, yahoo,
altavista, etc., and if you are in the top 3-5 bidders, you will be
seen at the top of these search engines' "sponsors" area for search
terms you bid on.

I used it many years ago, and it was very effective. Today there
seems to be too much competition, and for popular searches you may
have to pay $1.00 or more to get in the top 5. Depending on your
market, this can be worth it. All submissions are reviewed by humans
to make sure your site is in fact relevant, so traffic often has a
high turnover rate, producing a good ROI (usually around 2%, but I had
20% for one listing).

Google Adwords behaves similarly, though they list links in a
coloured, right-hand column.

If they are being deliberately vague about their methods, steer clear. You need
to know how the traffic is qualified, how closely it's tailored to your site's
theme, how long the visitors are likely to stay and whether they are being
rewarded in any way. There are hit exchanges out there that will show their
users different pages automatically, they don't even have to use a mouse. Your
"visitors" could be in another room reading a book, and you'll end up paying.

Depending upon what your product or site is, you may like to consider
buying a text link with us.

For example, all the topics in The Probert Encyclopaedia can have a
"more information at ......." link at the end of them. These are very
selective links (and include topics of an adult nature, such as
'animal training').

Failing that, I'd advise ensuring your pages have lots of relevant
content so that Google and other search engines pick them up and
deliver readers, for free.
