Hi,
I'm starting a small (~50 products) on-line shop with my sister, selling
ceramic giftware and leather goods to consumers (UK only at the moment).
This will be a part-time business - and we're fairly realistic on sales.
We're about 2 weeks away from going live, so we're just testing the system
and proof reading at this time.

Whilst the technical side of the site is in hand, can anyone share their
experiences in cheaply promoting a small site without spending a fortune
only to find we've got it wrong?

- I've looked at Google Adwords, and from reading around, they look like a
good thing. I ran a small campaign for my employer a few years ago, but our
products (industrial control equipment) really isn't suited to that type of
advertising. However, I did like the fact that we could advertise with a
very low budget (~20GBP).

- I've signed up to Froogle (awaiting processing), but I'm not too sure how
popular it is in the UK at the moment (its still in Beta) - however, it is
free, and I've created a quick tool to export my product database into a
Froogle data feed, so it will be easy to update.

- How about the major UK comparison sites?
(Dealtime/Priceguide/Shopping.net/Kelkoo) They look for work in a fairly
similar way to Google's Adwords (we send them a data feed). Does anyone use
these? I've been searching these types of sites and there are not many
competitors on there. Some of our products are Leather Pouffes, and there
is only *one* listed on Kelkoo @ 115GBP, our Pouffe (totally different
style) has a RRP of 45GBP. We've got no need to compete with the 115GBP
product (its very nice, but different ) - so would be happy to take 2nd
listing.
If we where to use these types of site, would it be better to have one or
two products per keyword, than list all of our products (many different
styles, but many similar products)

Are there any other methods that I'm missing? We don't want to do banner
exchanges, or anything like that.

Does any of the US people in here get good results from Froogle (its been
out for about a year or so in the US, but only recently here in the UK)?

Thanks for any advice.

Best wishes,
Jason
