I make it a habit of installing & trying various products from major
players such as Adobe/Macromedia, Microsoft, etc. so that when a client
says "Have you ever done anything with XXX" I can answer them at least semi
intelligently about why we do (or do not) use such a product.
Well, the verdict is in on Microsoft Expression Web Designer: Steaming
pile of poop. It is a bloated turd at 204Mb and required me to install
some other .NET tripe from Microsoft. I used it for about 15 minutes and
it took me longer to create a basic CSS layout than it would to do by hand.
Further, it (or the .NET update) has caused all sorts of issues with MS
Office and it won't let me uninstall it.

Karl,
Just as a point of reference, have you tried Dreamweaver 8, and what do
you think of it? I happen to like Dreamweaver.

Im a big fan of dreamweaver 8 but as far as standards go I hate to say
it but Expressions is way ahead, so Macromedia needs to get 9 out and
working.

DW8 is fine for standards compliant sites. Just take the plunge and use it
in code view and WHEY HEY! standards compliant websites.

So the first beta release is cumbersome. bloated, and causes problems.
What behavior did you expect?
Was Office the Vista Beta as well?

Hi Karl.
Have you tried NVU? http://www.nvu.com
It's pritty good for a free open source product, and it's only around
the 6 MB mark.

Yes. I'm pretty married to Macromedia Homesite at this point. I can't do
without its "Extended Find & Replace" functionality. So much of what I do
these days is repairing work done by others and being able to change
multiple pages at once is invaluable to me.
