Been playing with ideas for marketing and conversion rate increasing for a
shopping site......
On the new Doohickeys, we've done a bit of accounting and have decided we
can afford to offer the following....

1. Free delivery on all orders......
2. Discount on every third order delivered to any given address.....
3. Entry into a quarterly prize draw for a family holiday (up to 8
people) at Haven's Golden Sands resort with every order over £100......

I personally think this is a great dangled carrot in the quest for converted
sales......Anyone have any other ideas they fancy sharing?.....

The first two will definitly cost you money/eat into your profits...

If you go for the 3rd option you can potentially get that for free... just
try phoning around to various places and tell them what you have to offer
and what you want. In this case, you'll put up an ad for them for the
duration of the contest (along the lines of: Prizes furnished by "abc
company") and in exchange they give you free passes<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

We've already budgetted for all three.....We can cover all three offers
simultaneously and still make a healthy profit......The holiday has has
already been put in place with Haven at Mablethorpe in Lincolnshire.....A
week's stay for a family of up to 8, in a luxury caravan with full access to
the site and facilities......

loads...but I'd have to charge you Smile

one for free..."free delivery on orders over £X" will often persuade
people to order more than they otherwise would...the trick is picking the
optimum value of X

Hmmmm.....A minor tweak could e called for here......To be honest, that was
the strategy we were going for with the prize draw option......

prize draw is additional...it appeals to people making the decision to buy
or not to buy...the free delivery on orders over appeals to people just as
they are actually building a "shopping list"...so they'll buy something
they don't actually need of that they could get cheaper elsewhere because
it will "save them money" by getting a free delivery

you don't just want a set of ideas that might appeal to potential
customers...you need strategies to tempt them to purchase or purchase more
at each step of the process

nice, but don't give stuff away - make it work for you.

do it by account based on value/timeslice - the delivery address in
meaningless

cheap to implement but real tacky unless you're selling holiday related
stuff and (no that should be AND) pay attention to prize draw legislation if
this is a UK operation. You should take legal advice, but I believe there
are significant hurdles to implementing a sales based prize draw incentive.

points mean prizes?
limited editions?
free t-shirts?

sell good product and provide good service at the right price.
